I forget where, but I came up with a pretty good explanation for this yesterday. Maybe Jonas was vaguely aware that his parents were part of an organization fighting against some kind of cult organization. His parents disappeared. When he saw Bree's videos, he noticed that her parents were taken by an organization that sounded like the one his parents fought. Maybe he contacted her hoping to find out more about his parents' fate.

ok re-reading that, you could be totally right. he didn't seem shocked after all. he was pretty chill with it actually.
