Bree's dad would serve well as a research specialist. :)

It's possible that he was being recruited by the "Anti Order" (or "Culper Ring" if you prefer, like I do) prior to his assassination.
It's ALL connected...

Well, I have a personal theory that Bree's dad was working as a double agent all along; he was 'working' for the Order to help infiltrate and gain information for the Anti-Order organization to whom he was truly loyal. Hence why the manuscript written by Jonas's dad reminded Bree of things her dad told her before he died, and why Jonas seemed to find Bree's dad familiar in the Unthinkable Happened. I'm not obsessed with this theory at all. I just like saying it. Over and over and over again. :D

I've been meaning to ask what you think about this trainer: at the moment I'm kind of wondering if the group Jonas' parents were part of is different from Tachyon's group. That's why I've been referring to them as the "anti-Order" and exclusively referring to Tachyon's group as the Culper Ring.

It seems to me like Tachyon should have known what her own organization's symbol is. I think Jonas' parents and the people on the CC list may have been an unaffiliated group with similar objectives (though, perhaps, similar methods).

Jonas never said he found him familiar.

Seemed.

I have been wondering the same thing. About the Culper Ring vs. Jonas's parents' organization.

I get the impression that Jonas's parents were complete outsiders, who found out about the Order by chance, and worked against it. Tachyon actually used to be in the Order, so she may have more insider information.

I get the distinct impression that Tachyon and Brother, while working for someone or something are not fully aware of the extent of the situation. For Tachyon it's always been a personal matter so if Jonas' parents foundation is funding her activities, she may not even be aware of that fact. Similar to the structure of the Order where one arm doesn't seem to be aware of what the other arm is up to, yet together they function as a whole.

As far as the recruiting thing - hypothetically speaking, if you wanted to recruit someone from inside the Order over to your side, you'd have to have some pretty compelling evidence. I think that's what the Anti-Order symbol refers to. Theta Eta (Death/Destruction) (Textual Criticism) Similar to the Skull and Crossbones this represents destruction of the Order via exposure (as related to TauPhi and LamdaSigma). As a group it would refer to an "Anti-Order".

I interpret the other symbols this way:
Tau Phi (Life) (Philosophy) Represents the Philosophy of the Order - not necessarily a religious philosophy per se, but more a compound philosophy drawn from varying influences.

Lambda Sigma (Head or Brain) (RNA Factor) Representing either a higher faction/genetic factor or genetic mutation.

Tachyon also mentions that she remembers seeing dozens of symbols - these are the only ones she retrieved, so there may be more coming.
It's ALL connected...

I don't really think he seemed to find him similar either.

I doubt she'd know anything about the anti-Order. She didn't mentiong recognizing their symbol for what it was in the files she uncovered, and as a child she was close to someone who was in the same position as Bree, and Bree doesn't seem to know anything (that's with Bree's preparations coming after Tachyon's sister's and after the deaths/disappearances of the anti-Order people).

Tachyon wasn't really in the Order as much as Bree, if you think about it. Unless you count that brief stint in which she infiltrated, but even then it seems like she didn't steal much of anything that would tell her about the anti-Order.

Familiar.
When they saw the dad, he asked repeated if it was really Bree's dad.
It was peculiar. But this isn't the foundation for my theory anyway. In fact, my theory shouldn't even be called a theory, because it has no solid evidence. It's just a cool idea that I think would make sense for the series. I had no intention of stimulating a heated debate. :)

Probably not. I think I remember Bree saying something to suggest that (apparently her dad didn't really know).

This would support the popular theory that there are several branches within the Order, who may know little to nothing of each other.

Bree said that her dad told her that sometimes you can get so comfortable with something, that you stop asking questions even though you know you should. Then he told her not to make the same mistake.

And then Bree tied Jonas to a chair...lol.
