I think if 'the Order' hadn't made an appearance and Bree had just continued with her cutesy vids I would have gotten bored a long time ago. You can only go so far with 'My parents don't want me dating yet' and 'science is wrong'!

Yeah, agreement with most everyone else. The series only started getting really interesting after mention of the ceremony showed up (though the appearance of Crowley a month earlier helped get gears turning). I was one of those people watching from essentially the very beginning, and though it was obviously a production, it just wasn't nearly as interesting as it became later.
I know it got lots of views all along, but I don't think that would have continued had the story not become more dark. Proving Science Wrong wouldn't have been enough to keep this thing alive indefinitely.
Sure, I loved some of the old cute videos, but the story grew up and moved on. That might even be one of the themes behind this whole thing for all we know.
Do I think it would be a travesty for there to be some more cute videos? No. Of course not. Just because the series grew up doesn't mean it can't still have fun. But I think it would be a travesty if there were more cute videos when there were such serious matters as these that needed to be settled.
I'm really starting to wonder if maybe the progression of the whole series is supposed to be analogous to growing up. Ideally, we all get there, but along the way, there's immature resistance, and then something that eventually forces us to deal with things. Afterward, we deal with what we have to, saving things like cute videos for when that's settled.

haha, while a lot of us are going back on memory lane, let me join you....
you know i was one of the ones on youtube hopelessly defending bree as a real person before she was outed? i felt like such a fool afterwards, but it did look totally do-able until the swimming video. then i said to myself "nuh, uh. this ain't no ordinary teenager editing this."
what got me hooked was the speculation of her religion when we still thought she was real. i liked THAT excitement, but we can never get that back, so i guess the mystery surrounding the order will have to do....

I remember from the get-go I was like "and how old is she?" because to me, she didn't look that young. I never thought it might be scripted when I first came in, but I definately thought she looked older than she said and it was weird how she was homeschooled and la de la de da..
I never felt like a fool. I thought it was the biggest joke on youtube...we all were fooled, but we weren't fools.
I've been trying to find more things to investigate...something to bring us back to the excitement we got from debating on her religion and speculating about it...the closest I find is trying to research on spin programming and other elements that different cult groups use...its hard to get motivated when there are only so few who actually want to find facts instead of just commenting.

ok, i did not read the entire thread but my take on this is very simliar to many of you in this thread.
what got me hooked to the earlier videos was bree of course. she is smart, bubbly, looks great on camera and her personality definately drew me in. i could not wait to see what was going to happen between her and daniel every time a new video was posted.
i don't however think the show would have made it to the success it is obviously becoming had they not introduced the darker side of the series. personally, the suspense is what draws me back every day.

Evan I find your take on this really interesting!
If you want to move past the stuff on the Order, what direction would you like the story to take?

Well I think that it must be difficult for the creators because you can not make every viewer happy

I think one of the great things about this series is it's versatilty.
If done correctly they could have a resolution with the Order storyline but leave it open ended. Say the ceremony can only happen during the fall or spring equinox. The spring equinox comes and somehow they find a way to get Bree out of it again. The Order backs off their pursuit and becomes dormant. Maybe they plant some false info that now that the spring equinox is passed she is no longer elligible. They then have 6 months to tell a new story, perhaps a rite of passage type story where Bree learns to become comfortable in her own skin after learning what she did about who she really is. Obviously the opportunity to be more lighthearted will be there. When the fall equinox approaches, the Order could reappear.

Well, considering Bree was raised for the ceremony, I have a feeling the Order is going to be the main part of the series. I like it this way though. Otherwise we'd be watching "boy problems" and "girl problems" over and over with a little bit of "date with p. monkey" and "my parents suck" sprinkled in. I don't need to watch the life of my entire high school on a screen, thanks.
