I see both sides of the conversation here. There are times when swearing can be and is deemed appropriate. I probably swear the most in extreme moments: excitement, surprise, anger/frustration, pain, etc. When I was younger, my parents tried to watch their swearing around me (to the point "hell" was a curse word - but we referred to it as "H-E-doublehockeysticks!").
I never swore until high school. Now I use (what I consider mild swear words) "crap" and "damn" without a thought, unless, as Kas and Skydive pointed out, I'm in a situation where the clean mouth needs to be in use. I will say that I'm not comparable to a sailor...but do find times to drop the F bomb or a few other choice words.
Buttercup, I used to agree with you! I thought the potty-mouthed bunch were lazy and incapable of thinking up clean and intelligent alternatives to
those words we shall not speak of.

But now I'm about as bad as the rest of them. *shrugs*
