There's an angle that seems very real to the plot, krmurr87! I think you nailed it. It would let Daniel segue into leaving his home again without looking flakey, like "I've been thinking about that mortgage broker I met on the rails... you know? maybe I don't want this safe little life after all"
Something like that that gives him a reason to change his mind and still be the rational, cauitious Danielbest we know and love.

Okay, I think this is definitely about Bree. "Being my friend is like a full-time job with no pay or chance for advancement." Much like giving up a secure life at home with a job and education to be with his friend Bree, the two random people sacrificed the security of stable jobs for more enjoyable ones.

*nodding in agreement* It does seem to be a theme in Daniel's evolution as a character. Being able to let go of his old life and go out into the unknown -- and Bree is the catalyst for that.
