The word "retarded" does not make any sense in that context and, by using it incorrectly, you are only undermining your own intelligence (if any exists).

I think her name is just Bree. We can't assume it's short for Gabrielle. She doesn't look like a Gabrielle. I think Brianna would fit her better actually.

Gabriel = Bree

angels are pure and innocent
we're to believe Bree is pure and innocent

Daniel = Daniel
could be because Daniel prophesied things of doom, and all the bad things our Danny Boy has been worried about have happened

Jonas = Jonah
Not much of a strech name-wise
maybe just wanted to draw from someone who's life was altered thanks to the sea (in a book of mine, i changed the name "Jafar" from Aladdin to "Juvare" cause I liked the name.)

Edit: If he is named after Jonah: Jonah was dragged, kicking and screaming, to do the will of God, by God Himself. Jonah, by the way, was not a sailor. He probably couldn't even swim.

Bree is also commonly short for Brianna...the feminite of brian, which means "High, noble"

hehe i think its cute you think she "looks like a Brianna" i dont know why but it made me giggle.

Personally I think he name is JUST Bree and I dont really see where anyone is getting a connection with Gabriel or even Gabrielle.

Well really its just speculation. In terms to the names relating to anything biblical---Gabrielle is the speculated name. It just seems to make sense, but nothing is confirmed.
