I don't mind ads. Put 'em anywhere. (I think my pop-up blocker blocks pop-up ads, anyway. ;) )

Anyways, yeah, if it supports the show, by all means put them there. :)

Ads that are similarly unobtrusive compared to the current ones would be okay if necessary, but animated gif ads, or ads between messages would be awful. Depending on how annoying they are, I might be inclined to leave the forum.

I know that the Creators have to pay the bills, but for a series built so heavily on interaction with the audience (especially on the forums), this could be very alienating.

What ever happened to the concept of product placement? I was under the impression that was the way we were going. I want to support the creators' efforts, but I'd find a hard time dealing with ads most places. Any movement, bright colors or sound and I'm outa here but text similar to the google ads would be marginally tolerable in forum. (Especially if you could place it in the huge blank area to the right of the "Post a reply" screen.)

You guys have bills to pay, I get that. But placing MORE ad's is not the way to go. I mean I couldn't imagine having to read an ad in between forum posts.

Why don't you take a cue from Prom Queen, and do those 3 second ads at the begining of the vids.

Or for real, product placement. We talked on Mixed Media, and I suggested having the characters wearing outfits of places that were paying for advertising. You guys liked the idea then.

And hell, it really wouldn't be terrible if you did a LG ad. Like just shot a commercial for something with the actors in character. I wouldn't post it on the big screen, but as long as that particular video doesn't affect the overall story line, why not just make & post a commercial featuring Jonas&Sarah&Daniel.

I like product placement better.

However I could deal with more ads if:
1. they weren't pop ups, i mean I have a pop up blocker but some stuff still gets threw and that is obtrusive to me. I hate it.
2. Ads between posts is about the most obtrusive spot to put them. If they were too bad or too frequent I would probably leave, and if I wasn't already here I would probably wouldn't join seeing that.
3. None that talk, or are too flashy, I leave websites that have ads that talk to me those are the worst ever lol. (Mostly because they always scare me half to death when I open a page and it starts making noises)

However, ads down the side of the page in forum topics I wouldn't have a problem with. or maybe another banner at the top or bottom of the page. I think down the side of the page would still be a prime like spot, and it's less intrusive.
I know I'm an acquired taste: I'm anchovies. And not everyone wants those hairy little things. If I was potato chips, I could go more places. -Tori Amos

p.s. please no flashing ads or popups.

They're not that bad, but I still think some well integrated product placement would be a lot better, and more profitable.

Unfortunately, there are some moving ads. Thankfully I was able to scroll past them quickly. As for the static ads, there was one about porn. You may want to put some kind of filter on them to keep this site PG13.

Where did you see moving ads? I only saw the text-based Google adsense ad at the top of the page.

If you see any link in those ads for porn (or anywhere on the page), please grab a screenshot (hit Prt-Sc and paste into a Paint window, then save it as a .bmp or any file type) and send it to me ([email protected]). I'll forward to the web folks. Supposedly, you can tweak your adsense settings to avoid such things.

I'll do that next time, BK. One of the ads was for sex ring tones. The other sex ad was for a sex site. I don't remember what the moving (in color) ad was. I try not to look at those. I'm one of those unfortunates that can read anything (upside down, backwards, it doesn't matter) just with a glance. Drives me buggy sometimes! It also makes it impossible to do those puzzles in the newspaper! LOL!

I haven't seen a moving ad yet, thankfully. I know it will trigger a migraine for me. I avoid sites that have them - and have actually written to webmasters to let them know why I am not going back to such sites (generally with good results/response). I know we have at least one other forum member with epilepsy. Sometimes moving/flashing images can be triggers for epileptics as well, so it's worth noting that this is a concern...

Oh, and the PRT SC function doesn't always work. I use a capture program I found suggested on the forum here - FastStone Capture. It doesn't have a huge learning curve, and it does work...
Diane, or cher, or even chershaytoute, but "Hey, you!" works, too...

And if you're mac, like me, you do the 3 finger screen capture ([apple][shift]"4") and designate the area you want to capture. That way you can bypass all the funky special apps and just upload to the web.

Yeah, the new ad bar is fine.

My question, though, is who actually clicks on these kinds of ads?!

("Oh, wow, $1500 fast cash! Just what I was looking for! Thank you, internet!")

The fact that these things apparently turn a profit does not speak volumes about the average intelligence of the internet-using public.
