Before we went on stage in college to perform, we would just say merde. No "break a leg's" or any of that. Just shit.

He also had that friday performance and the competition this weekend.
Also yes in many cases Monologues are much better for the first judging and cold reading at callbacks. but that's often in school, or a company, occasionally even professional. This however was community theatre and is typical.
Though In my experience you should be very careful performing monologues you have written yourself.

It does make a difference if the director is familiar with your work as far as auditions go, too.
I can't believe he hasn't called you guys, yet. It's starting to bug ME, lmao.

I'd start leaving voicemails...Hello? Oh...I took a shower and thought the phone rang, thought I'd see if it was you.
Hello? Oh, I was just napping...thought you called...
Hello? I just got back from getting the mail, thought my answering machine wasn't working...

Eh? Désolée! Je suis un étudiant de français, et ma prof le nous dit. Mais, il peut avoir tort, non?
EDIT: In a theatrical note, I am co-stage managing a production of "The Madwoman of Chaillot" it looks to be a good show, though the play is very short. It is absolutely hilarious!
