Maybe blue=sad? The angel would be sad because the "cup" being handed to Jesus was his being sacrificed for our sins. Maybe it's a symbol of someone innocent being sacrificed.

I don't know if this has already been said, but the blue quality is probably just a product of the image inversion ...
