Humans tend to be afraid of the dark and tend to be afraid of what they can't see and have a fear of the unknown. Studies have shown that when people watch scary movies, they say they are more scared when they can't see the thing that's supposed to be scary or evil...like the Blair Witch Project. In the Blair Witch Project, they spend a good part of the first half of the movie talking about the history of the Blair Witch and building up all the suspense and making it seem really scary. When in the woods, you never really see anything. It's dark and there are lots of noises, but you never come face to face with what you're afraid of, yet you're scared stiff.
