And he's partly right, the hippocampus does deal with things such as explicit memory, which means stuff we consciously have to try to remember. But honestly, I wouldn't hold my breath on recalling anything from those days while they were in captivity. In order for someone to remember something, you first have to encode the information and then store it. Being on drugs and loss of sleep adversely affect the process that you are able to take in, and process information. Also, going on the loss of sleep thread...in order for short term memory to become transfered into longterm, or permastore, memory, one must have completed the Sarcadian cycle, which involves a full REM cycle...that's why when you stay up really late and don't get the full 8 hours, you have a harder time remembering things that happen that day. An example would be Prom for most people...they stay out till o'dark thirty, right? If you ask them for the nitty-gritty, vivid details, for the most part they won't be able to tell you. There is a possibility that the Scoobies have the memory somewhere in there, and it could be "mood-congruent", meaning that in order to remember it, they have to be in the same physical and emotional state-so take some drugs and don't go to sleep for a couple of days, and bang! They weren't drugged though when they did that episode on mythbusters and that definitely effects your ability to retain info. The kids might be able to remember more if they try to re-create the Vegas captivity setting and mood, or if they take the same drugs they were on then. Memory is extrememly context-sensitive, and environment and drugs in your system provide pretty "heavy" contexts. This is why when you leave a room and forget what you're doing but then immediately remember as soon as you go back into the room. That room where you first had the idea to go get a glass of water is the context for the "get glass of water" memory. This is also why people tell you to re-trace your steps when you lose something, although it's actually more helpful to visualize and build the environment in your imagination (wherever you were when you lost your keys) then it is to just list each location you were in and what you were doing. Of course none of this will help because most drugs that suppress memories work by interfering with the creation of the memories. If the memories were never created and stored in their brains to begin with, it makes it real tough to access them later no matter how much hypnotherapy you do. :) I think hypnotherapy is more for retrieving memories that have been suppressed because they were traumatic- a case where the memories are in storage, just being blocked from retrieval. Then again, everyone's body is different so there could've been points when, for example, Jonas' metabolism burned off the memory-suppression drug faster than Bree's, before they were all re-dosed, and he got some small memories in there before the drug blocked his memory-maker again... you never know. I've had personal experience with a drug that blocked my memory- quaaludes!! It was used as a date rape drug in the 70's because of this (now there is better date rape technology). ;) Of course I didn't know this when I voluntarily took a quaalude and it totally freaked me out when the next day I couldn't remember anything, and yet the night before I didn't feel all fucked up or out of control (like one might when one blacks out due to alcohol). Obviously I did remember something because I knew I hadn't been all fucked up the night before, but I just couldn't connect the dots- to the point where I had new contacts entered into my PDA and I didn't know who they were!! Despite this I continued doing quaaludes for a period of time, except now that I was aware of the memory thing we started recording our sessions with a video camera. Over time I found if I was aware enough while I was on the drug I could train myself to remember the session. :) Sooo... how does this apply to their drugs? Quaaludes probably aren't perfect memory-blockers which is why I was able to train myself to remember things after a while. However, our brain is very complicated- even if the Order's awesome memory-blocking drug blocks most memories, it might not block "emotional" memories or muscle memory (cerebellum). Through these less direct memories they might be able to piece something together. It's not about being "right" and "wrong" - anyone can see there will be a range of reactions and opinions on this subject - I think you can find what you want to find. I've left nothing out, only correcting a few of my spelling typos. Judge for yourself. For me, it's about an issue I feel strongly about. I am not interested in attacking anyone, but I do have a strong visceral reaction to these kinds of "threatening comments" (again, my words) even if they are given in jest. In fact, I have no reason to doubt the good intentions or natures of the three commenters I have quoted: hollishillis, Mariposita Obsidiana, and Joe. But I am very uncomfortable with the overall accumulation and extent of these negative sentiments within the entire LG15 fan-base, and with increasing expressions of violence as found in these three examples. All I ask is that the members of this community seriously consider what is acceptable humor or criticism and what goes too far in terms of threatening remarks directed toward characters and actors, taking into account the shades of grey between actor and character identities, and without ignoring the youth of some of those touched upon, particularly the character and young actress (it seems) known as "Jules." I've learned that while adhering one's principles is important, it's also very wise to understand that battles must be chosen carefully--some just aren't worth your time, even if you feel strongly. In this case, I'm quite sure that "Jules" (whoever she really is) and the Creators will take whatever steps (if any) they deem necessary. If they don't act, they're probably not concerned, and you're just spinning your wheels. You've said your piece, and I think that you can safely assume that you've done what you can.
