We imagined all sorts of potential rescue schemes -- Jonas and Daniel could team up with Tachyon and Brother -- there could be flash bombs -- maybe Alex would betray the Order -- maybe Bree's real father would show up -- or Jonas's parents -- Bree would be snatched at the last second from some horrible fate in the "ceremony" -- the possibilities were endless, and would certainly be exciting! They had to top the "Human Ransom" rescue, didn't they? Well.... no. Instead, everybody escapes -- rather uneventfully. Sure, there's some minor action in the desert, but it's mostly unexplained. How DID Bree get out in the first place? Especially id she was drugged up and sleep deprived? How about the boys? They were being watched, too. God, these Order people aren't so bad or threatening -- because they're obviously total INCOMPETENTS!! I'd rather go back and watch the Human Ransom again. Maybe it will end up like X-files, with none of the threads ever really connecting or anything being resolved, which is what killed that series. The fact is, at this point, you have many unresolved points: the romance-now-triangle between Jonas and Bree and Daniel, the matter of when the hell this ceremony is going to happen and what it is and what its point is and why it's so bad, these shots that Bree took, who her real parents are, what happened to Jonas's parents, and what the Order is supposed to be anyway. Oh and what happened to Gema. And who the hell is Cassie. And on and on and on. So my point is--you can string the audience along with all these questions for awhile, but after awhile, you have to start answering at least some of these questions or people will lose interest. Or worse yet, they will stop suspending disbelief and start asking practical questions, like why don't these people go to the police as kidnap victims? I have been around for a long time too and I really do think there is hope but there needs to be a real shift in the plot progression. It would be time to start resolving one or two of those branches to progress things along. It doesn't need to be all action to keep us interested guys just substance. Though time and again, the story has made a fool out of me that way. --Finally, back to "The Human Ransom". By now, I think it's entirely clear that that was an abberation. What excited people about it was not just the action (relatively minor when you think about it) and not just the hopes that it raised that the story was kicking into high gear, but also the aesthetic qualities it possessed. With that one video, the story seemed poised to become a little more slick, a little more stylized, a drama whose small-screen visuals could match the excitement of the quickening story pace it also seemed to promise. I think what we are seeing (aside from the plotting and pacing of the story which is a separate question), is the Creators & viewers struggling a bit with this new invention of the 'private transmission,' but overall, I think it is going to help solve problems created by the original premise that everything posted online would have to be knowable to all characters. The descriptive text with each video now has 3 parts (as I see it), the Title, the conversational Description posted by a character, and the Label that describes faction and transmission type. I think it is incorrect to assume that either the Title or the Label are provided by the character. The trouble is, if dedicated fans are confused, then there is likely to be even more confusion in the more casual audience. I think the Creators should consider how to present this information more clearly before posting on YouTube (i.e. include Faction and Transmission information within the video.) In the end, this experimental construct may prove unwieldy due to confusion generated (which distracts the audience from the story), and due to the problem of having to name the faction a video posting character belongs to outside the realm of the story. They are both artists and businessmen who are blazing a new trail. To that end, I truly want to see them SUCCEED! We are all an important part of that experiment. This medium allows not only interaction to be part of the story, but also the ability of the audience to provide feedback immediately without the need for Nielsen ratings. This feedback, I believe, is critical to their success. They NEED to see the reaction that has occurred here. As Martha Stewart would say, "It's a good thing." For me, they did a good job -- with an admittedly limited budget -- bringing the story towards an incredible climax, building, building, and then... and then...how can I put it? I know there must be a good analogy here... Well, let's just say a disappointing and unsatisfactory result. Hopefully, through all our comments, they will adjust, fix any personnel problems that may have affected things, go ahead and bring in product placement to generate revenue, whatever it takes to make this thing work. In LG15, none of the gaps ever get filled. I think there is a good reason that no answers are being given to the questions that come up with every new video. If you are confident in the plot you have created, you can provide answers to many of the questions that come up along the way. You can drop these little factoids as if they were pieces of candy to please the followers of you story and keep them interested. However, if you are not confident of your plotline, if you don't know where your story is going, you can not answer questions along the way. Each answer you would give, blocks you from going in a number of directions with your story. You could, in fact, create a situation where there can be no logical ending to your story. Along the way, you managed to eliminate every possible logical outcome. I think the latter is the position the creators find themselves in. And there may well be a lot of subscribers on YT, but based on previous posts about "views on videos", maybe 10% of the YT subscribers actually watch the videos. So, even more to the point, given that without the viewers, LG15 would be nothing, should not "the creators" be protecting the community? This comments section was intended to be comments about the videos, and it has become a more of a chat room or forum. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with chat rooms, and I have nothing against anyone here, but personally I'm here for the videos and I'd like to read more of what people think about the plot. It's becoming more difficult to filter through the content for what I'm personally interested in. I'm not suggesting any kind of change. The evolution of the "comments section" to being used in this way, with pirates and grape nehis and all that other stuff I'm not well-versed in would have happened eventually. At this point the forums may be a better place for what I'm seeking, but it isn't as convenient and frankly the forums have changed similarly.
