Last Thursday, I fell though a glass coffee table, which resulted in a shard of glass in my knee. (Anything for LG15 of course.) This shard was embedded in my tendon. (Ooooooooooh grosss!) I had it removed and stitched at the ER. (After I drove myself to the doctor and picked up the kids. I didn't have the diversion of Icebreakers Sours yet.) It hurt like hell, and I was hopped up on Advil / Tylenol with Codeine for awhile. However, it was really only noticeable for a day or two. Within a week I only needed a teeny band-aide. Today, it looks like a brush burn, and I'm off to play a ball tonight. The knee is also supposed to heal extremely slowly. The moral of this story (aside from the obvious fact that the Order clearly manufactures glass coffee tables) is that Jonas' hand could have healed very quickly. Please give me that. But there is one thing I noticed that I HAVE to comment on -- I wasn't bothered at all by the product placement, but I'm not sure I can say the same about what is going on with comment #319. Take a close look at it -- the comment appears to be a plant. It is not left by a registered fan; you can't click on the name to get a profile. It seems like this comment was inserted into the comment board as an extension of the product placement! Notice how the name of the product is prominently mentioned, and the comment appears to be designed to evoke response and discussion, so as to draw more attention to it. I know that, in a sense, that's exactly what they just got me to do, but I don't think in the way they intended. It's interesting that no one seems to have taken the bait. I think effective drama involves artful presentation of engaging characters going through interesting times. To be engaging, there must be time to emphathize with the characters, to see them relating to each other, and seem them express a range of emotions. If every film was "exciting" as in a high speed car chase with lots of tension, or shouting/killing/mayhem, the series would grow tiresome quickly. The quieter moments as in this video are important too. But back to conflict... I think the series could be better about putting characters into deeply conflicting situations, and seeing them struggle with hard choices. For example, what if Bree's decision to escape the Order meant that some other girl she knew would take her place in the ceremony? And she knew that? That would make her decision to run away even more difficult and complex, enhancing the drama. The good guys should have dark sides, and the bad guys should have good intentions and sympathetic qualities. Right now, it's a little to good vs. evil (although we are not sure who is on which side all the time). Aunt Alex has the potential to be quite interesting. I would like to get a chance to get to know some of the "bad guys" the way we have gotten to know the "good guys" in the story. I have a neighbor that is one of those pain in the ass neighbors you hate to have. She is an old, born with a silver spoon in her mouth, arrogant woman. I saw her wedding announcement from the 1940s, and it inlcuded a description of how and when she first "debuted." This alcoholic aging debutant looks down on everyone, and has seemed angry with me from the day I bought my house, I believe, simply because I dared move in next door. I guess I am not of the same social class. We've had our clashes over the years I've been here, including when I noticed her handy man cutting down a healthy sugar maple tree on MY property because she felt the branches were threatening the power line going into her house. Her husband was very nice and outgoing, but he unfortunately died splitting firewood in his driveway. I've always said that the wrong one died. Anyway, a friend stopped over yesterday and said to me, "Did you hear what happened to your neighbor?" I said, "Who? Mary?" She said "Yeah - apparently a bear broke down the fence around her garbage can, tore everything apart and spread it all around, and destroyed her bird feeder. She's got her handy man trying to fix it all now." I responded with "A bear? Really? Huh!" Well, gee, that certainly confirms it now! The bear living under my barn is Tachyon -- she's excellent at executing covert actions! And all I did was briefly mention to her that she should avoid that neighbor because she was "unpleasant." It was started for diplomats moving around the world so their kids could have a standardized education. There are IB courses for below high school level, but I didn't take them. Basically what you need to know is, IB is considered the equivelant of AP in other countries, but is harder. Last years English essays were sent from here, in NYC, to California and Australia to be graded. By the way, IB is beggining to take hold in the US, and sveral major universities accept it now. I am not in all IB courses though. I am taking IB in: English Math Comp. Science My second video is honestly my first attempt at editing, with no training or help, which is why I am now seriously considering a major in film.
