I think we keep doing this because we expect that sooner or later, there is going to be a character that's set up to appear like someone trustworthy, and ends up being the betrayer. We expect this because it's just a good literary mechanism -- when it happens, it's going to spark a lot of action, and it's going to make the story interesting. So, I think it's safe to assume that it will definitely happen. My opinion is that it has happened. I think Auntie Alex IS that person; a member of Jonas' own family that is guilty of being involved with the inconceivable -- the disappearance and/or murder of another member of her own family. I think Jonas himself is innocent. Maddingo was the first to raise the possibility that the files Jonas found in her office indicated that she was involved in the Order. I later came to the same conclusion, and I will repeat part of what I wrote because it may be pertinent to revisit it in the context of Bree's comments: "Then, in looking back at what Jonas found in her office — all those articles that he 'thanks God' that she kept as a record — well, why DID she keep them? Alright, maybe she kept articles about the disappearance of Jonas’ parents because she was related, but they are in a larger file chronicling the deaths/disappearances of many people. Since they work the fact that they're filming these things into the plot (unlike a movie or TV show, where no one acknowledges the camera), it is the sort of thing you expect the writers to take care of in terms of verisimilitude (yep, I'm throwing out the big terms folks). I think the writers have tried here and there with a few explanations: 1. Daniel wants to be a filmmaker, so he's into filming and editing stuff. 2. McPhee's character did point out that it was weird behavior saying, "Do you guys film everything?" and other characters have been frustrated with eachother filming at various times. 3. After rescuing Daniel from the Order, Jonas says something about how they would never have been this safe or come this far without us watching on YouTube (I still don't get this, but I guess it's how Tachyon found them anyway). I'm sure the creators assume we're willing to suspend our disbelief but only within certain limits. They've never provided a thorough explanation for why it might actually be advantageous to post these videos instead of dangerous, probably because it could seem even more contrived than not providing an explanation. Maybe they're waiting for us to come up with a good one. I will say that filming everything allows them to see all sorts of clues that they'd have missed, allows them to keep in touch with eachother and people like Tachyon when they're apart, allows them to enlist our help figuring things out, and allows them to document this whole battle with the Order...an organization that has henceforth never been publicly uncovered. by Clio on 2007-03-17 10:01:33 As I'm considering the problems of writing a script in which characters publicly post every film that they make themselves, I also consider the fact that it pretty much subverts the basic dramatic standards that we're accustomed to.
