The bear is rather docile, but from my experience seeing black bears, that's normal. I remember being a kid camping with my family in the Adirondacks, and we actually went out one night to the local dump -- with a bunch of other people lined up with cars with headlights on -- to watch the bears forage for food in the garbage. I know -- kind of a strange form of entertainment, but as a little kid, I thought it was neat. Anyway, I do have a healthy respect for this large beast with claws and teeth, and exercise caution, but I'm not afraid of her. She's actually a rather beautiful creature, and it is neat that she came to visit. However, despite appearances, we do live in a densely populated village, and it's not the best place for her. Ardra: Yeah, she's eating lightly. It's still not yet a highly active time of year for bears. I don't really know if it's a she -- the way he/she's laying in there, I don't have a view of the "naughty parts." At some point, we just started to referring to it as "she." It was easier than he/she. The idea of a cub may sound cute, but if she had one, that's when she COULD become agressive and dangerous.
